Huqoq: Past, Present, Future

Huqoq was one of the thriving Jewish villages of Roman and Byzantine Galilee, in a region central to the development of both Judaism and Christianity. The site's international significance emerged through the Huqoq Excavation Project, directed by Prof. Jodi Magness of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which uncovered a monumental ancient synagogue and some of the most spectacular mosaics ever discovered in Israel. This website presents the Huqoq Heritage Project, led by the W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Israel and the U.S. Department of State through the Freedom 250 initiative, in partnership with Israeli and American collaborators.
