Take a Minute to Prevent a Wildfire

Forest Fire Safety Guidelines

Israel's forests are our shared "green lungs," but they are under constant threat

Since 2020, KKL-JNF has battled roughly 4,000 wildfires, losing over 26,000 hectares (64,300 acres) of forests and natural open spaces. These aren't just numbers – they represent lost wildlife, destroyed habitats, and environmental treasures gone forever.

We need your help to stop this escalation. Safety isn’t just a suggestion; it’s the only way we can prevent another devastating environmental disaster.

Where Can You Light a Fire?

Only in designated zones!

Lighting fires or bonfires is strictly prohibited throughout the forest, except in regulated campgrounds and recreation sites.
  • Follow the signs: Only use areas marked with official KKL-JNF signage.
  • Built-in safety: Use the provided BBQ stations (grills) or established stone fire pits. These were specifically designed to contain heat and protect the surrounding environment.

Your Forest Fire Prevention Checklist

  1. Keep Grills Off the Wood: Never place a portable grill on a wooden picnic table. It’s a major fire hazard and ruins the park equipment for everyone else. Keep your BBQ in the designated concrete or metal stations.
  2. Dispose of Coals Safely: When you’re done, move your coals only to the dedicated concrete coal bins. Never toss them in a standard trash can! Coals can stay hot enough to melt plastic and spark a fire hours after you've headed home.
  3. Don't Build Your Own Fire Pit: Stick to the existing fire circles. Creating "rogue" stone rings scars the earth and increases the risk of underground root fires.
  4. Total Extinguishment is Key: Whether it’s a campfire, a grill, or a cigarette – jmake sure it’s stone cold. Douse coals with plenty of water or bury them in sand until they are cool to the touch. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave.
  5. Clean Up Glass and Butts: Take all trash with you. Glass bottles left in the sun act like magnifying glasses, and stray cigarette butts are "ticking time bombs." Pack it out to keep the forest safe.
