Hebrew name: Mishlat Shesh-Esrei
Location: Convoy (Shayarot) Ridge, Jerusalem Mountains
Description: A short walking path (or a road for ATVs) along the Israel National Trail leads to Mishlat 16, a command post that was used by Palmach fighters during the War of Independence. 200 meters from the Mishlat (command post), near the monument in memory of the fallen Palmach fighters (Mount Orna), there is a bench located under a shady pine tree. From here, there is a stunning view of Sha’ar Hagai. South of Highway 1, the Convoy Ridge creates a mountain range that stretches from Sha’ar Hagai to the Shoresh interchange. The ridge is named after the convoys that traveled up to Jerusalem during the War of Independence. The ridge played an important role in securing the road to Jerusalem and the Palmach’s Harel Brigade fought difficult battles to gain control of this area. The ridge is part of the Rabin Park, which spans some 25,000 dunams (approx 6,200 acres) around Sha’ar Hagai, a region in which Rabin served as commander of the Harel Brigade during the War of Independence. The park has preserved the forests and Mediterranean woodland, ancient agricultural terraces, battle heritage sites, recreation areas and scenic routes.
Directions: From the KKL-JNF recreation area on Route 3965, a half of a kilometer east of the entrance to the Masrek Nature Reserve.
