KKL-JNF Chairman,  Efi Stenzler, Mayor of  Kiryat Shmona, Haim Barbivai, JNF America President, Ronald Lauder and Minister of Interior, Roni Bar-On planted the first tree today (21.08.2006) in the "Rehabilitation Planting" project.  Within KKL-JNF, it is estimated that rehabilitating the forests in the north will take many years.

Professor Francisco Rodriguez Y Silva of Spain’s Cordoba University was KKL-JNF’s guest two weeks ago for discussions on how best to combat fires in woodland. Now KKL-JNF teams are fighting vast forest fires in both the north and the south of Israel, under Katyusha and Qassam fire, at great daily personal risk.

Since last night the forests in the Naftali Hills above Kiryat Shmona have been ablaze. So far approximately 2,000 dunam (about 500 acres) of woodland are estimated to have been burned.
