Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael–Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) today officially inaugurated the newly renovated Aminadav Forest Visitor Center and Yad Kennedy complex. The ceremony was attended by KKL-JNF Chairman Eyal Ostreinsky, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, Mateh Yehuda Regional Council Head Avishai Cohen, KKL-JNF Central Region Director Anat Gold, members of KKL-JNF's leadership, and other distinguished guests.
Developed over several years with the support of Friends of KKL-JNF in Israel and around the world, this flagship project transforms the site into one of Israel's most modern and accessible visitor destinations while carefully preserving its natural landscape and historical significance.
Spanning approximately 7,000 dunams (1,730 acres), Aminadav Forest is one of the largest and most important green spaces surrounding Jerusalem. The forest connects the city to the Jerusalem Hills through an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, archaeological sites, natural springs, and scenic viewpoints. Together, the upgraded visitor center and the Yad Kennedy complex provide enhanced recreational experience for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who explore the area each year.
The renovation included the restoration of the existing forest building, which was completely redesigned internally and fitted with new electrical, plumbing, water, communications, and sanitary infrastructure. A new underground service building was also constructed, housing the forest manager's office, storage facilities, and a protected shelter. The structure is topped with an ecological green roof and includes a dedicated underground water reservoir.
Accessibility throughout the site has been significantly improved with renovated stairways and a new accessible pathway. In addition, a new observation point has been created on the western side of the access road, allowing visitors to safely enjoy panoramic views of the Jerusalem Hills.
Dedicated in 1966 and designed by Israel Prize laureate David Reznik, the Yad Kennedy Memorial is one of Israel's most distinctive architectural landmarks. Built in memory of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, the memorial symbolizes the enduring friendship between Israel and the United States, as well as the longstanding support of KKL-JNF's friends around the world.
The completion of the visitor center marks a major milestone in the overall redevelopment project. In the coming months, KKL-JNF will begin the next phase, focusing on the conservation and restoration of the Yad Kennedy Memorial itself. As part of the project, a new interpretive signage system has been installed throughout the site, telling its story while providing visitors with maps, trail recommendations, and information about the surrounding area. New accessible groves and scenic viewpoints have also been developed to enhance the visitor experience. Visitors will also enjoy renovated public restrooms and the popular Bar Bahar Café, whose terrace overlooks one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Jerusalem Hills.
