"From Now On, the Forests Will be Cleaner" – New Underground Waste Containers at the Ben Shemen Forest

A revolution at the Ben Shemen Forest: for many years, the KKL-JNF foresters are struggling to raise awareness for the importance of maintaining clean forests, trying to encourage the public to collect waste and avoid polluting the forest areas. Now, KKL-JNF has concluded the installation of underground waste collection containers, each with a capacity of five cubic meters.

The Ben Shemen Forest is located at the center of Israel, and it draws visitors from all over the country. It contains extensive recreation infrastructure, and is an ideal picnic spot – which, naturally, leads to a lot of waste collected in it. To keep the forest clean and bring the waste volume down, KKL-JNF has installed over 63 underground waste collection containers, with an overall capacity of 330 cubic meters. The containers are spread all throughout the picnic recreation areas, and at the entrances to the forest. "This is a system of underground waste containers, each with a capacity of five cubic meters and we ask the public to get rid of its waste in the containers and avoid polluting the forest. The project help us and the natural environment," said Neta Laska, Crowd Coordinator of the coastal plain area at KKL-JNF.
