Krayot Lookout Point

Hebrew name: Mitzpor Krayot

Location:
Yatir Forest

Description:
The Krayot Lookout is a viewing platform that is built as a metal pergola. The scenic lookout lies at the top of an extension of Mount Amasa, the higher area of the Yatir region. The slope, which faces southwards and eastwards, falls steeply towards the Judean desert and rises about 250m above it, a fact which guarantees a marvelous view of the surroundings. The view is indeed striking: The Judean Desert and the Arad Valley rest below, and the Moav Mountains rise beyond the Syrian-African Rift.
At the foot of the lookout, eastwards, remnants of the early Roman roads that came down from Hebron to Arad through Mount Amasa, and then towards the Jordan River and to Eilat, can be seen. The lookout commemorates Yitzhak Armoni, who formerly served as president of the Mount Hebron Regional Council.

Directions: From the Tel Arad junction (road 31) you turn to the north on road 80. About 13 km later, the road reaches a junction with the access road to Mount Amasa. Continue on for 450m more and turn right towards Sussiya. Drive about 300m to reach the observatory.
