Bikaat Shafir Lookout

Hebrew name: Mitzpor Bikaat Shafir

Location:
The fields of the Shafir Regional Council, near Kiryat Malachi

Description:
The low hill is unimpressive at first sight and yet, surprisingly enough, once you ascend the observation terrace you find a breathtaking all-around vantage point, surrounded with 3,000 hectares of intensive agriculture. Beyond the agricultural circuit one can view the landscape between Gush Etzion on Mount Hebron and Ashdod and Ashkelon by the Mediterranean Sea. And there’s a bonus: plenty of butterflies taking advantage of the vegetation in the area.
For many years the observation site was used as a dump site for agricultural and construction waste. Mosko Rom, a worker in the Sorek-Lachish drainage authority, managed to convince those concerned to close the waste dump site, and the place then became a respectable observatory.

Directions: From the Moshav Shafir, along road 3. About 600 meters from the edge of the Moshav you drive 1.6 km westward on a good dirt road
