Masua Scenic Lookout

Hebrew name: Mitzpe Masua

Location: British Park, Judean Plain

Description: This spectacular observation point is at the foot of the KKL-JNF observation tower in British Park, overlooking the Judean Plain to the west and the Coastal Plain between Tel Aviv and Ashkelon. To the east, the tree-lined hills of the high plain and the slopes of the Jerusalem mountains can be seen. KKL-JNF has built a recreation area next to the observation tower. The observation point is located on the the side of a scenic route and the Israel National Trail. The tower serves KKL-JNF’s fire scouts and is not open to the public.
The name Mitzpe Masua refers to an inscription discovered in one of the ancient Lachish letters: “…We are watching over the beacon of Lachish according to the signals which my Lord gave, for Azeka is not seen.” This letter was inscribed in clay, and describes the dramatic moment in the war against Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon. Mitzpe Masua is located between Lachish and Azeka.

Directions: A paved road ascends to Mitzpe Masua to the west from the Beit Shemesh-Beit Guvrin road (Route 38, near the 7 km. marker).
