An important recreation area in the Negev, a base for hiking and a place for a picnic. The recreation area has picnic tables, some of which are wheelchair-accessible, barbecue facilities, drinking water and a children's playground. The recreation area is named for Barbara Proper, who was murdered nearby in 1952 by Bedouins while she was shepherding a small flock of sheep. A trail beginning in the recreation area crosses the Halukim Ridge towards Hagai Scenic Lookout (Mitzpe Hagai).
Directions: Route 40, opposite the entrance to Kibbutz Sde Boker.
