Rehabilitating Forests

Rehabilitating Forests

When forests in Israel are ravaged by missiles, arson or wildfires, KKL-JNF takes upon itself the immense task of rehabilitating them, so that they can be enjoyed by people and wildlife once again. Rehabilitation includes removing burnt trees, encouraging natural regeneration, monitoring progress, and installing fire-breaks and water points to protect against future fires.

Thanks to KKL-JNF efforts, the trees and shrubbery destroyed in the Carmel wildfires of December 2010 have returned. The green of rebirth and the golden sands of the sea-shore combine to create a riot of colors (Photograph: Amir Hermes, KKL-JNF).

During the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006, extensive damage was caused to thousands of acres of KKL-JNF forests across northern Israel. After the war, KKL-JNF and its friends worldwide led the rehabilitation process.
