Mount Yaaleh Scenic Lookout

Hebrew name: Mount Yaaleh

Location: American Independence Park, Jerusalem Mountains

Description: Mount Yaaleh offers a spectacular observation point on top of the western slopes of the Jerusalem Mountains, overlooking the Judean Plain, the Nahal Soreq basin and the Coastal Plain. KKL-JNF has posted informative signs about Operation Ha’har (the Mountain), when the region was captured during the War of Independence. Picnic tables are located near the observation tower. Mount Yaaleh is located inside the American Independence Park, which spans 4,000 dunams from the western slopes of the Jerusalem Mountains, which descend from the Bar Giora Region to Beit Shemesh. KKL-JNF began building the park in 1976, marking the 200th anniversary of U.S. independence. The park boasts a natural grove and planted forests, springs, ancient agricultural terraces and historical sites.
From Mount Yaaleh there is a footpath that overlooks the massive winding paths of Nahal Soreq. The path will take you to the KKL-JNF Nes Harim Information Center.

Directions: From the Shimshon Junction travel in the direction of Beit Shemesh (Route 38) and turn left at the Beit Shemesh bypass road (3855) in the direction of Moshav Mahasia. Near the Moshav, turn right in the direction of the Netifim Stalactite Cave (Route 3866) and travel six kilometers until the junction near the Challenger Memorial. To the left, the road leads to the Netifim Cave. Mount Yaaleh is located directly ahead and there is a short dirt path that leads to it.
